Growing up as someone of color, I’ve personally experienced times where I felt like I “didn’t belong”. Being in a predominantly white area, I was rarely surrounded by people that looked like me.

It had a real impact on me and affected how I viewed myself.

I felt as if I didn’t belong or that I couldn’t accomplish certain things that others could just because of the way I looked, which brought my self-esteem and confidence to a low. 

This all changed when I tried out for my high school dance team my freshman year. The team never had more than 2 black girls and those spots had already been filled.

Feeling like I wouldn’t make the team because of how I looked had a BIG effect on my confidence. It made me question whether or not I would be able to achieve my goal…

But, to my surprise, I ended up making the team!

This was a very pivotal moment for me as a kid because it helped me realize that I could accomplish anything as long as I never gave up! It gave me the confidence to pursue my dreams… and to believe in myself when others didn’t!

Fast Forward To 2018 - And The Birth Of Kiiing Creations

In 2018 I decided to take a leap of faith…

The lesson I learned when I was in high school was still with me: I had the confidence, empowerment, self-belief, and the ability to pursue my dream!

I decided to start my own company - Kiiing Creations.

Kiiing Creations sells inspirational art and stationary that celebrates women of color through positive imagery and affirmations.

Representation is the heart of my business!

Having experienced what it’s like to feel:
  • Like you can’t relate to anyone else…
  • Like you’re treated differently…
  • Like you don’t belong…
  • ​Like accomplishing your dreams is impossible...

I know how tough it can be for a person of color with no representation to embrace their Uniqueness...

However, having gone through those experiences I now know that a world of empowerment and representation is possible!

Growing up, I rarely saw art that looked like me or reflected my culture, and I don’t want that to be the case for the future generations!

I want them to grow up seeing their culture through art, embracing their unique traits, qualities, characteristics… And be proud of the community and culture they come from!
